I have been trading now for over 20 years. I gradually moved to trading the eMini S&P using Ensign Software which is a professional charting program with many features, special indicators and an extensive programming language. You will need a data feed and depending on your trading style I recommend either eSignal or Trader Bytes (less expensive). Try to avoid the free data guys like Interactive Brokers. Many of the free data sources chunk the data, or are slightly delayed.
For Stock Traders I recommend Telechart 2000 which I started with in the 1990’s. TC2000 is one of the fastest and most robust scanning software available and is very inexpensive. You can design your own scanning criteria based on any indicator, fundamental or candlestick formation. Multiple scans and standard trading strategy lists are available along with a huge inventory of specialty systems. Best part is once you get it setup, you can scan all markets, ETFs, indexes and foreign stocks in only a few seconds. They also have a Free Stock Charts program.
Finally, for Options Traders I recommend Think or Swim. Their order execution options, forecasting and look back systems are exceptional. One thing about them is that this is a very complex program and you will need to study diligently,
How do I use these programs?
- I use Ensign Software to day trade the eMini and give me a heads up for options on a small select list of stocks. I use ATC Brokers to execute my day trades
- I use TC2000 to look for potential big movers, either up or down, with specific search criteria I developed over the last 20 years.
- I use Think or Swim (TOS) to trade options. Best thing is that it is free. I could trade Forex of the eMini here, but the margins are excessive
We are currently upgrading and install three websites for traders that should be done by November 15th.
